Grand Scribe's Notes for November, 2013
(To be read at your next meeting, and where necessary, circulated to Companions)
Well, here we are again, some fourteen months since my last Grand Scribe's Notes. I reiterate, once again, that I do not believe in issuing paperwork purely for the sake of it as your lives are busy enough without me creating unnecessary work for you. 2013 has been a very busy year with our own Grand Installation just a little over a week ago, and with Grand Installations in New Zealand, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. We have certainly run up some Frequent Flyer points this year.
Our Grand Installation was an unqualified success with absolutely everything "going off" as planned. Feedback from other Jurisdictions confirms that they had a most enjoyable time with us. I must particularly congratulate the whole team who participated in the Grand Installation Ceremony. Under the astute leadership of our Grand Director of Ceremonies, V. Ex. Comp. Ian Hodgson, we presented an Installation Ceremony which was the talk of all the Other Jurisdictions, and we have now reestablished ourselves as presenting Ceremonial work of the highest standard. Well done to all concerned.
I now wish to raise a number of items for your attention and information and I ask that you ensure that your Companions are made fully aware of the contents of these Grand Scribe's Notes.
1 Active Grand Chapter Office: Applications are now being sought from Companions seeking Active Grand Chapter Office for the 2014/2015 year, which commences 1st November, 2014. Applications close on 1st March, 2014, and a letter giving full details and an Application Form will be forwarded to each Chapter with the monthly mail out in November. Additional Application Forms will be available from the Grand Chapter Office. In this role you will be playing a very important part in the future of this Grand Chapter. Grand Chapter asks that all Past First Principals of twelve months standing, as at 1st November, 2014 please give serious consideration to applying for this important role in Grand Chapter. Grand Chapter urgently needs eligible Companions in the South East part of the State to nominate for Active Grand Chapter Office. We are currently very low in numbers of Grand Chapter Officers in this area of Queensland. You will get to travel to places you might never otherwise visit, and make lasting friendships with people you might never have otherwise met, at the same time, you will form lasting relationships with the Companions that you will serve beside as a Grand Chapter Officer. Also, it is not an onerous task and requires far less of your time than you might otherwise imagine. Give it your very serious thought. It is a decision which, I can assure you, you will look back on as one of the best decisions you have made in your masonic career, and you will be making a significant contribution to your Grand Chapter.
2 Thornton Pollard Bursaries: Applications are now being sought for these Bursaries for secondary students who will be undertaking tertiary studies at a recognized tertiary facility in 2014. Full details of the Terms and Conditions of these Bursaries are included on the reverse of the Application Form. Applicants can be the child, grandchild or ward of a financial member, or the child, grandchild or ward of a deceased member of a Chapter within the Jurisdiction of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Queensland who was financial at the time of his death. Please note that applications close on Friday, 31st January, 2014, and that late applications will not be considered.
A letter and accompanying Application Form was forwarded to each Chapter during the month of October. Additional Application Forms can be obtained from the Grand Chapter Office.
3 Chapter Membership List: Copies of each Chapter Membership List, as per our data base, was sent to all Scribes Ezra on 23rd October, 2013 with a request that they check the list and return it to this office by 25th November, 2013, detailing any changes or variances which were evident when compared with the Chapter register. On 3rd December, 2013, Grand Chapter will issue the invoices for Grand Chapter dues for 2014, and they will be based on the confirmed data base membership numbers. Any Chapter who has not returned the Membership List by 25th November, 2013 will
be assessed as per the figures on the data base at that date.
4 2014 Grand Chapter Dues: Whilst the Budget for 2014 has not yet been finalized, it will be completed this week, and will be presented to Grand Committee for approval at its November meeting on Monday, 18th November, 2013. Chapter closures and falling numbers have placed a great deal of pressure on our income and even though our costs have been maintained at lower than budget estimates, there will be an increase in Grand Chapter dues for 2014. This will be notified to you all on Tuesday, 19th November, 2013.
Please do not hesitate to contact Tetty or myself in the Grand Chapter Office if there are any issues or queries which you require us to address. We will be only too happy to assist you
