The Board of Benevolence Report delivered at the Convocation held on the 2nd April, 2008.
Message from the President
This Board of Benevolence Report will be delivered at the Grand Convocation to be held on Wednesday, 2nd April 2008.
Since my last Report to Grand Chapter, the Board Members have met on 9TH October 2007 and 12th February 2008 to select suitable Charities to sponsor and to determine Education Bursary Awards for 2008.
During this term, V. Ex. Comp. John Edwards was welcomed to the Board and regrettably, R. Ex. Comp. Ian Hay had to retire from the Board.
The Board expresses its appreciation to R. Ex. Comp. Hay for his support to the Board and heartily welcomes V. Ex. Comp. Edwards.
At the Meeting of the Board held on Tuesday, 12th February 2008, the Board acknowledged a letter of appreciation and thanks from Alicia Dew, a Bursary recipient in 2002. Miss Dew thanked the Board for their sponsorship and that she had completed her chosen tertiary studies with much to credit to herself. The Board acknowledged its appreciation for this rare acknowledgement of assistance rendered.
Only Nine (9) applications for a Bursary Grant were received this year and after deliberation, and having adequate funds available, the Board determined that all applications be approved and that a Grant be made to each of $1,000.00, payable as $600.00 on presentation of certificate and $400.00 on successful completion of the first semester and evidence presented of continuation of studies in their chosen field.
The successful applicants were:
Miss Jessica Bell of Kewarra Beach,
Miss Sophie Bowden of Thornlands,
Mr Matthew Hubner of Beenleigh,
Mr James Johnston of Ashgrove,
Miss Jodie Lane of Runaway Bay,
Mr Robert Griffiths of Bellbowrie,
Miss Emily Rogerson of Urangan,
Mr Steen Weir of Cannon Hill, and
Miss Rachel Vickers of Deception Bay.
On the evening of 11th March 2008, the President of the Board welcomed seven of the recipients who were available to attend, and those family members who accompanied them, at a function in the Ann Street Masonic Centre and on behalf of the Most Excellent First Grand Principal, presented each with their Certificate and first payment cheque for $600.00.
During the evening the President was ably assisted by Board Members V. Ex. Comps Noel Shepherd and John Edwards, V. Ex. Comp. John France, GSE and our office manager Miss Lesley Miles.
In acknowledging receipt of the awards, each recipient advised that they would advise the Board of their progress and on completion of their studies.
F.T. (Tom) Green
